Frequently Asked Questions
Does SMBA offer programming on holidays?
Yep! We offer programming 365 days a year, depending upon staff and rental bike availability. Fill out a Rider Assessment to line-up an adventure with us!
When’s the best time to visit Sedona?
We ride bikes 12 months a year in Sedona - it’s one of the best things about living here. Check out this blog post to help plan your visit to town.
Do you offer bike rentals?
Only the best in town! Thunder Mountain Bikes our exclusive bike shop partner - and SMBA is their exclusive instruction sponosr. They have all the top brand’ newest demo bikes ready for you to ride. All riders who book with SMBA gain access to discounted pricing.
Rental bikes are set-up ahead of time (suspension and pedals). At the start of your booking, we’ll make the final adjustments as needed (seat height, ect.,).
Some riders prefer to bring their own pedals that we can install on your rental bike at the start of the ride.
Do you offer programming for e-bike/pedal assist bikes?
E-bikes (pedal assist included) are not currently allowed on Sedona’s trails or bike park, by the US Forest Service. We love e-bikes but unfortunately are not permitted to conduct any programming with them at this time. We know this is not ideal and hope the rules change soon.
Do you offer gear rentals?
By riding with SMBA, you gain access to complementary helmets and Osprey hydration packs. Your assigned instructor will bring these to/from the lesson, along with your rental bike (if applicable).
Any other gear can be brought by the ride themselves or purchased from the extensive selection at Thunder Mountain Bikes.
Do you transport my rental bike?
Yes. We offer complimentary bike transportation to/from your booking’s meeting location.
I’ve never ridden a mountain bike before. Is an adventure with SMBA right for me?
Definitely! SMBA has helped hundreds of new riders fall in love with the sport. Trying mountain biking with a certified, local instructor is the best way to avoid developing any bad habits and having the most fun, safe experience possible.
I’ve never ridden any type of bike before. Can you teach me how to ride a bike?
We are in the business of teaching riders how to mountain bikes and riders enjoy their experience the most when they are confident riding bikes on pavement, before booking with us. That being said, we’re here to work with you so reach out and let’s chat (info@sedonamtbacademy.com)
Do you offer experiences for groups with a wide range of abilities?
Absolutely. Our staff is expertly trained to conduct an experience that will keep a range of abilities engaged and having fun. We can play games, run drills, and ride terrain that offers different line choices for differently experienced riders. When in a group, the curriculum will be tailored to the least-skilled rider, for safety reasons.
An alternative is to split a group between 2+ instructors, so each group will experience a more individualized experience. With this option, groups can conveniently start/end at the same location.
Do you offer programming for kids? What is the youngest you will work with?
We offer a ton of youth programming - private lessons, clinics, and camps. Check out our website to learn more on youth private lessons and more.
Do you offer programming outside of Sedona?
We offer lessons and clinics in Flagstaff, Arizona from the early spring through late fall at the Fort Tuthill Bike Park.
Do you offer discounts to veterans, healthcare workers, students, ect.,?
Sedona MTB Academy works hard to exceed their customer’s expectations, while still compensating our staff a livable wage. Our pricing is below many of our competitors and we are dedicated to ensuring a premium experience for all bookings. The pricing listed on our website is already as approachable as we can facilitate.
The best way to access discounted pricing is to join our email list (visit our homepage and enter your email in the pop-up). We send 6+ emails a year with discounted codes to this exclusive SMBA family.
