Flagstaff Bike Park Progressions

Are you ready to level up your bike park skills? Do you want to start hitting intermediate jumps and drops with more confidence? Are you ready to add more style and flow to your ride? Come join Team SMBA and BICP Level 3 Coach, Evan Puglia in Flagstaff for this action packed clinic!

SMBA instructors love working on skills at Ft. Tuthill Bike Park. This park is well built for skill progression and is an incredible tool to help accelerate your MTB journey.

There are a variety of skills and features that we will practice during this 3 hour clinic:

Advanced Pump Track Skills & Manuals - The pump track is an invaluable tool for learning cornering, jumping and dynamic riding. In addition to pumping and absorbing, instructors will layer on more advanced techniques to improve traction, increase exit speed and add flow. One of the key skills that we will break down is the manual. Having a functional manual will maintain speed in the pump track, improve bunny hops and add style to your ride. As the saying goes at the Academy, our goal is to ride our home trails like we ride the pump track.

Intermediate Jumps - Learning how to take your jumping to the next level can be challenging if the skill is not broken down into manageable progressions. Our experienced team has developed a system of jumping progressions that will help riders gain confidence one step at a time. We first start on the beginner jump line, practicing foundational skills that will apply to the intermediate jump line. Once riders have a full comprehension of these dynamic body movements, we move on to more challenging features. The intermediate jump line at Ft. Tuthill includes larger table tops while retaining a safe learning environment.

Intermediate/Advanced Drops - Learning how to safely identify the type of drop and what technique to apply is an important skill to have in your toolkit. Riders will understand and safely progress from small drops to intermediate/advanced drops. Two drop techniques will be introduced and practiced at the park.

Beverages & Free Ride - After the clinic, kick it with SMBA instructors for a beverage and chat all things bikes. The SMBA team will hang out after the clinic for an open freestyle ride session where riders can focus on new techniques and having some fun at the park.
